I’m sorry but the program doesn’t work for me at all. When it reads the tags of the files in a selected folder it sets two strange characters (ÿþ) in front of artist and album. when I remove the characters, the program finds the cover but when I then hit “Set as Cover”, all tags of the selected files are totaly corrupted. Fortunately I tried it with only one album with few tracks and could restore the files from a backup.
There is a known issue of ID3 tag corruption with the Windows version on non-English installations. If you are using a non-English version of Windows, please do not use the program until the bug is fixed.
Darn, I’m having that problem too, and I really needed to get this program to work. I didn’t think I had a non-English version of Windows (but maybe I do). Is there any estimate for when an update might be released to fix this? Thanks for the help, -=- Mike
Try disabling writing the CD cover to MP3 files, in settings. It worked for me, and since most programs read “folder.jpg” from the folder anyway, it shouldn’t matter.
If you desperately need to write CD covers to tags, download the covers with the program and then use a program such as Mp3tag, to write them.
The 1.6.6 program .exe that I had mysteriously disappeared while leaving everything else (like the uninstaller). The downloads at muksuluuri.ath.cx are broken. I have tried using version 1.6.5 from a download site, but it crashes on the Open command and none of the queries to find art work.
The downloads will be back up after the following weekend. Sorry for the inconvenience.
I get the ÿþ and I am using Windows Vista 32-Bit Home Premium SP1 with the language English-Australian. I get the ÿþ bug when I use winamp’s auto-tag feature. If i use dBpoweramp to convert the “broken” files and replace the old file with the new Album Cover Art Downloader works fine.
Keep up the good work and good luck with the bug. Nice program.
this applications seems to be exactly what i’m looking for. unfortunately i’m on a german windows xp here, and so can’t use it because of the mentioned bug. any chance for a fix?
This program is almost brilliant, were it not for the numerous bugs. The main problem for me is that when downloading JPGs, it falls over with an error if it can’t understand the file format. Why can’t it just ignore the erroneous files and continue scanning?
What this program requires is a bit of TLC to remove all of the rough edges.
I could not get this to work under any circumstances. I am not using a non-English version, and never have. As well, I write code and in another life was a system admin, so I’m not the average user. Finally, I did try disabling the “write to MP3″ feature–also to no avail–even though that is the opposite of what I want: I WANT to have the cover art embedded to use on my PS3, and I DON’T want to fill up my space with the pictures in a file on the PS3 HD. I have plenty of other MP3s that the PS3 will display cover art for and for which I have not added the jpg file to the hard drive for, so I know this is not necessary.
I give up on this. Sorry.
